Instructions & code basis

How to use this tool:

  1. Enter project data. The form is pre-filled with typical Florida values. Hints below each field explain what’s expected.
  2. Calculate. The report shows a preliminary EPL compliance score, a Manual S-style HVAC sizing check, annual energy breakdown, and peak load summary.
  3. Save, load, or print. Save inputs to a JSON file, reload a saved project later, or print a clean PDF report that documents every input and assumption.

Code basis: simplified algebraic models based on the principles of FBC 2023 Energy Conservation §R405 (Simulated Performance Alternative), 2021 IECC prescriptive baselines (Table R402.1.3, including the mass-wall path for CBS construction), and ACCA Manual J peak-load methodology. Baseline HVAC equipment is set at the current federal minimums (SEER2 14.3 / HSPF2 7.5). Intended for preliminary estimation only.

01Project

CZ 1 ≈ Miami-Dade, Broward, Monroe, coastal SW FL. Everything else is CZ 2.

02Geometry

Include windows & doors — net opaque wall is computed automatically.

Occupancy is taken as bedrooms + 1 per Manual J.

03Envelope

Sets the code baseline: mass walls compare to R-4; frame walls to R-13.

Insulation only — air films and finishes are added internally.

Sets the peak solar gain factor for the cooling load.

Slab edge heat loss is estimated from floor area for heating.

04Systems

Blower-door result. FBC requires ≤ 5.0 with testing.

Nominal sizes run in 6,000 Btuh (half-ton) steps.

Electric resistance ≈ 0.92–0.95 · heat pump water heater ≈ 3.0–4.0.
